Why spend buy eggs, when you can just buy a home to harvest your own?

Ever wonder what kind of property you are required to own in order to have chickens? According to Brevard County eLaws, "in all single-family residential zones, on lots of at least one-half acre minimum, up to four chickens (no roosters or other fowl) may be permitted per one-half acre of land."

Let's break that down... First, you must have at least 1/2 an acre of land to own up to 4 chickens. Believe it or not, there are over 200 homes in Brevard County for sale that meets those requirements. In today's economy, people are looking for more practical and cost effective lifestyles. From installing solar panels that reduce electricity costs to buying energy efficient cars, people are starting to rethink their decisions on how they want to spend their dollar.

Once we find you the right property to begin living a more off-grid sustainable lifestyle, you'll need to build your coop and learn more about harvesting eggs from your chickens. Be sure to do plenty of homework on these foul... what they eat, what your risks are and how to treat the bird should it become ill.  Then start buying your chickens (most people buy chicks, but full grown birds are an option also). Plenty of places in Brevard County to buy chicks from, Malabar Feed Store, Funky Chicken Farm and Tractor Supply, to name a few.

Did you also know that depending on how you plan to utilize your land, you may even be eligible for tax breaks through Florida's Greenbelt Law? You can truly use your land as not only an investment of property, but as an investment of residual income.
